The Geopark is pleased to announce that the partnership behind our work – the Charnwood Forest Landscape Partnership Scheme – has had it’s funding extended by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. We have been given an additional 18 months of time to deliver our projects, which will take us up to December 31st 2026. In addition, the National Lottery Heritage Fund have agreed an additional £250,000 of funding to support the Geopark’s work to help people explore, understand, and care for Charnwood Forest.
The Landscape Partnership Scheme began in 2020, though some projects were unable to start immediately due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. This extension and funding increase will help Charnwood Forest Geopark to complete these works, as well as prepare for our major legacy aim: an application for Charnwood Forest to become a UNESCO Global Geopark.
The Charnwood Forest Landscape Partnership Scheme is hosted by the National Forest Company. The Partnership comprises: Bradgate Park Trust, British Geological Survey, Charnwood Arts, Charnwood Borough Council, Environment Agency, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, Leicestershire County Council, Leicestershire Local Access Forum, Leicestershire Promotions, Leicestershire & Rutland Sport, Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, National Farmers Union, National Forest Company, Natural England, North West Leicestershire District Council, Soar Catchment Partnership with Trent Rivers Trust, and Voluntary Action Leicestershire.
