Show your love for where you live by joining us at a litter pick during the Great British Spring Clean. We’ll be running litter picks across Charnwood Forest Geopark, with a twist – the rubbish we collect will be transformed by local artists into a beautiful sculpture at Timber festival in July.
We’ll bring litter pickers, bin bags, hi-vis vests, gloves and some cold drinks and biscuits. All you need to do is wear warm, comfortable clothes and waterproofs, and get in touch with Ali Brand-Barker (abrand-barker@nationalforest.org) to let her know you’d like to come along.
Litter picks will take place on Wednesday 20th March, Sunday 24th March and Thursday 28th March at 10am – 12noon and 1pm – 3pm each day, with each morning and afternoon session at a different location.
In the meantime, if you are able to help our efforts by collecting the following household waste for use in the art installation, we’d be most grateful and you can contact Ali at abrand-barker@nationalforest.org to arrange collection:
- Fruit/veg netting bags (like the ones you get citrus fruit and courgettes in)
- Drinks bottles and drinks cans (not food cans)
- Soft plastics – crisp packets, plastic chocolate bar wrappers, clear plastic food packaging (e.g the wrapping for peppers, lettuce, etc)
- Carrier bags
If you’re super keen and would like to litter pick your own area of the Geopark, please feel free to go ahead and you may find this guidance useful.
