For every settlement within Charnwood Forest, we have taken 100 samples from the 1881 census and entered the data into an Excel workbook. These resources have been made available for teachers to use in class, so that students can examine the human geography of Charnwood Forest in detail. Additionally, we have created a set of game cards featuring one family from each major settlement in the Geopark. Students can compare and contrast occupations right across the region, find out how old the youngest workers were, and see how nineteenth-century work compares with modern day occupations.
