In 1870, Mountsorrel-born Rebecca Wakefield travelled to Africa with her husband, to begin a new chapter of her life as the wife of a Missionary preacher. Thanks to the publication of letters that she sent home, we can piece together her extraordinary journey in minute detail, allowing students a front-row seat on a voyage of discovery and exploration across two continents. Find out what Rebecca sees on her 97-day journey to Africa. Meet the extraordinary animals that she encounters, and discover the new foods that she tastes on her arrival in Zanzibar and Kenya. This resource is currently available as a workshop, or schools within the Geopark may borrow a resource pack to run sessions themselves.
